Old age is not a disease - it is strength and survivorship, triumph over all kinds of vicissitudes and disappointments, trials and illnesses.

Movement Sensations, a workshop geared to those in nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities and social service organizations, is a 45-50 minute group that combines dance/movement therapy and aromatherapy for a person-centered experience, allowing each participant to engage on a physical, emotional and creative level.

Dance/movement therapy applies movement to support intellectual, emotional, and motor functions of the body. As a form of expressive therapy, dance/movement therapy uses movement exercises and improvisation to clinically delve into the correlation between movement and emotion.

In aromatherapy, essential oils are used as a way to help enhance the health of others. A neurotransmitter called endorphins, also called the "happy hormone", is released when certain essential oils are inhaled. This aids in alleviating anxiety, and also acts as an analgesic and sedative for pain and discomfort.

Participants have the opportunity to explore each of the following experiences collectively as well as individually:

Building/Maintaining Physical Endurance (range of motion, balance, cardio)

Reducing & Prevention of Symptoms Related to Psychological Issues (depression, agitation, isolation, loss)

Heightening Physical Embodiment (breath, flow grounding)

Maintaining Memory (muscle memory, short-term/long term memory)

    Group Participation (social enhancement)

Creative Expression (because imagination exists regardless of age)
